In this Q&A we caught up with our latest addition to the Amsource Tech team - Casey. We asked him about his back ground, his market and the ups and downs he has faced in his first few months of recruitment!

Tell us a bit about you and your background?

I come from a town call Berkhamsted, which is just north of London.  However, 4 years ago I moved out to study Sports Business Management at Leeds Beckett University.

After living in Leeds for 3 years I fell in love with the city and decided it was the place I wanted to build my career from. So I graduated and started researching different career paths.

What sparked your interest in a career in recruitment?

I met up with some old friends who were all working in recruitment and were really enjoying it. They told me in more depth what it was they did on a day to day basis and I thought ' that sounds great, I'd be good at that'.

After a couple more conversations with my friends and more research into the recruitment industry I decided that this was the job role for me. So I got applying and researching different sectors of recruitment and the different agencies in the Leeds area looking to build their team.

What stood out to you about Amsource Technology?

When I came to my first interview here at Amsource, as soon as I walked into the office, I knew this was somewhere I wanted to work.

The working environment was great and the training they provided as a graduate trainee really appealed to me.

The interview process at Amsource involved an assessment centre with other candidates where I was able to spend some time in the office, and meet the other members of the Amsource Team on a personal level.

The atmosphere in the office was great, and it was refreshing to meet other people on the team who I could really see myself working with and getting along with.

I left the assessment day without a doubt in my mind about the company and hoping I had done enough to secure my spot on the team.

Luckily it turned out I had!

Can you tell us more about the market you are working?

Yes. So, I am working in the Business Analysis Market, focusing on the Agile Business Analysts.

Business Analysts typically develop technical solutions to business problems, or to advance a company's sales efforts. This begins with defining, analysing and documenting requirements. Managing requirements at the project level can help fulfil business needs. They also work closely with alongside the stakeholders in the business.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge since starting out in recruitment?

The most difficult challenge for me so far would be learning the market. Coming from a background of not knowing anything about IT, then having to know everything in the market about what a Business Analyst does was very hard and it’s something you need to pick up very quickly.

However, with that being said I feel like I've learned something new everyday and entered each new day a little better than the last!

What’s been your favourite part of your recruitment journey so far?

My favourite part of being part of Amsource so far would be gaining new skills and experience. It’s such a fast-paced industry and you are kept on your feet the whole time, which is a great challenge and something I thrive off. It really makes me want to succeed and do well in this industry.

What advice would you give to other graduates wanting to go into recruitment?

I would say, if you’re not sure what industry you want to go into, and you’re a competitive person like myself who has the drive to succeed, go into recruitment as you won’t regret it!

The working environment is fast paced and everyday is different. On top of this you won’t only be gaining skills and experience, you’ll also make amazing friends.
