If you have been keeping an eye on our Twitter feed or blog posts, you will be aware that here at Amsource Technology we have been doing some fundraising over the past few months for our nominated local charity The Candlelighters Trust, a childhood cancer charity based at Leeds General Infirmary.

Each year in the UK, 1500 children and teenagers are diagnosed with Cancer. Candlelighters was founded by and is still run by the families of children who have been affected by children’s cancer. Candlelighters do fantastic work in raising funds to support families affected by childhood cancer in many different ways which include providing family support and counselling to help families come to terms with a diagnosis and supporting them through treatment. They also provide much-needed distraction from the stress of treatment in the form of toys, creating a home-from-home environment and paying for families to have days out and holidays. Additionally, they provide funding for extra medical staff and equipment to treat patients. Importantly, some of the money raised is used to fund imperative medical research surrounding childhood cancers to help improve survival rates.

Our efforts so far have included a group Skydive generating more than £3200 of donations for the cause.

Some of us even went along to visit Candlelighters at their base at the Leeds General infirmary where we got to see first-hand all the valuable, amazing things fundraising for the charity can be spent on.

Next week marks the start of Children’s Cancer Awareness month and we thought it would be another great opportunity to start raising some more cash for Candlelighters, so yesterday (27/8/15) we took part in an Amsource ‘bake-off’! Each member of the team rose to the occasion and provided their best baking efforts from mini apple pies, Victoria sponge, an array of different flavoured brownies, key lime pie and to even some homemade sausage rolls.

It's safe to say the bake sale was a success, we managed to raised £153.07. A good £50.00 more than last years efforts!

We decided to make things a little more interesting adding an element of competition in to the mix. The member of the team whose baked goods proved most popular would be crowned the Amsource bake-off winner.

There wasn’t much left, but David’s sausage rolls and Sophia’s Victoria sponge came out on top. (Click here for recipes.)
