Anika joined Amsource Technology as a Recruitment Consultant in our Leeds office just over a month ago, in this blog she fills us in on her market, her first month, what she has enjoyed and some of the challenges she has faced...

After graduating from Northumbria University in July 2017 I joined Amsource along with four other graduates at the beginning of August. At Northumbria, I studied International Business Management and as part of my degree I worked and studied abroad in America for one year. After spending four years studying in Newcastle I decided to move back to Leeds, which is where I am originally from.

I enjoy working in a challenging, target driven and rewarding environment, and with both my parents working in the I.T industry I decided to pursue a career in I.T recruitment. After initially having a first stage phone call with Andrew I was invited in for an assessment centre day. Through group and individual activities this day allowed me to get a feel of what it would be like to work at Amsource. I was really attracted to the core values, the people and the office culture at Amsource and was very excited to accept the position as a Recruitment Consultant, specialising in Business Analysts.

My first month at Amsource has been challenging but enjoyable. The office environment is very welcoming and everyone has been very helpful, which has given me a positive start in recruitment. As a new recruiter, I have been encouraged to always ask my colleagues questions, which has in turn helped me learn more about the fundamental principles of recruitment. The depth of training I have received at Amsource has allowed me to develop and expand the necessary skills needed to be a successful recruiter.

The initial challenge I encountered in my first month was being able to understanding the different roles a Business Analysis does at each stage in the systems development life cycle and the depth of these roles. I have enjoyed speaking to different candidates and finding out about the various projects they have worked on and the software they have worked with. I have learnt something new from each candidate I have spoken to, which has enabled me to gain a deeper understand about the role of a Business Analyst.

My first month at Amsource has been focused around building my candidate base and really getting to understand my market. I am looking forward to being able to place the candidates I have spoken with and start to expand my client base.
