WHY CHOOSE A CAREER IN RECRUITMENT?

Thursday 20th July 2017
Recruitment International recently reported that jobs in the recruitment industry are on the increase, in fact, they have risen by almost 15% in Q2 2017! This makes the recruitment industry 6th in the top 10 industries in the UK to witness this type of hike in job vacancies.

So as we edge into graduation season, where many new graduates will be looking to get out into the world of work. Why should this increase in recruitment vacancies be of interest to them? What makes recruitment a great industry to get into?

In this blog, our senior consultant Penny (who started her recruitment  career at Amsource Technology four years ago)  shares her top 10  reasons why you should consider a career in recruitment...

"A career in recruitment wasn’t something I’d considered until the  months leading up to my graduation – you don’t  go to university  dreaming of being a recruitment consultant.

However, I looked into  the role and the industry and I decided it was  the right role for me. I pursued it with the right  intentions; I was looking for a career, not just a job. This isn’t against the norm, I believe that a lot of people “discover” the idea of a career in recruitment for various reasons rather than knowing that it’s absolutely what they  want to do. We make no secrets that it’s a tough and demanding role, but through all the challenges I’m really glad  that I chose this career and here are some reasons why I think that you should to..."

1. CHANGE PEOPLE’S LIVES.
As a Recruitment Consultant, you have the opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives. Job satisfaction will be high as you will become a key part in guiding candidates through the interview process and offering important advice to help them to secure their dream role.

2. WORK WITH GREAT, TALENTED PROFESSIONALS.
I enjoy working with the IT industry because I deal with professionals that care about their careers and where they want to go, and that speak passionately about what they do

3. WORK WITH GREAT ORGANISATIONS AND COOL BRANDS.
We get to work with some great companies. Everyone will look for different things in an organisation, but I like to think we’ve got it well-covered across our major client base. We work with award-winning companies, companies that use all the latest and coolest technologies, companies that compare their working environment to Silicon Valley organisations like Facebook or Apple, cool start-ups, and well-established companies that will add some very notable projects to.

4. LEARN ABOUT A SPECIFIC MARKET, BECOME AN EXPERT.
At amsource we work with some very talented professionals who know their stuff, and by specialising in one sector of IT we can ensure that we know our stuff too and appear credible when talking about our own individual markets. By developing an expertise in a market, we are able to provide much more of a specialist approach for the IT industry.

5. WORK ALONGSIDE A HI-TECH INDUSTRY WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS TRULY VALUED.
We work with hi-tech, forward-thinking companies that develop cutting-edge technologies and candidates are grateful to have the opportunity to work with these companies. As experts in our respective markets, we have a proven history of offering advice and guidance in recruitment and our specialist knowledge and advice is valued by clients and candidates alike.

6. “WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?”
Hard work doesn’t go unrecognised. Besides the monetary rewards, we have incentives in place on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to continually motivate us, such as lunch, nights out, and holidays. And we get a say in what our incentives should be too!

7. REAP THE FINANCIAL REWARDS.
Money is one of many reasons why people turn to a career in recruitment, which is why recruitment agencies look for people that are money motivated. Recruitment is very process-driven and if you follow the right processes then you will begin to make frequent placements and see the commission come in.

8. MEET PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
Because there is no real clear-cut path into recruitment, you will meet people from all walks of life. At amsource we have Consultants that have graduated in Philosophy, Drama, and Sports Science, but none of that is important as we recruit for the right people. It’s important that you demonstrate the core attributes of a recruitment consultant: confidence, tenacity and target-driven to name a few, which means you can guarantee that you’ll be surrounded by like-minded individuals, encouraging a great working environment.

9. FAST-TRACK YOUR CAREER PROGRESSION.
Due to the nature of the business, in order to succeed in recruitment, you have to be ambitious by nature. Ambitious people want to progress and excel their careers, which is often what propels people into a career in recruitment as it will give you the opportunity to fast-track your career and take it in the direction that you want.

10. FEEL EMPOWERED!
Working as a Recruitment Consultant is like owning your own business. We offer a very supportive environment and great training, but how quickly you progress and how successful you become is ultimately up to you.
